Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was set up by Government of India in 1969 to develop space technology and its application to various national tasks like telecommunication, television broadcasting and meteorological services.

The first phase of digital library implementation project at ISRO Trivandrum (VSSC) comprised of about a lakh documents comprising of - Technical reports, Technical drawings, Articles, Newspaper clippings, manuscripts etc

The second phase comprises of digitization of Microforms and re-training of the staff for handling a digital repository.
